Mare Nostrum is made of plastic. What can we young people do?

Despite the small size of the Mediterranean SeaIt includes one of the most unique marine biodiversity in the world. The Mediterranean is bordered by many nations, including our beloved Italian peninsula, which boasts some of the most envied coastlines in the world.
Yet, according to a recent analysis out of a total of 53 beaches, 44,882 waste, that is 8 waste per step (1m)

The study categorized waste on the basis of material, shape and size, highlighting a sad record of pieces of plastic and polystyrene and cigarette buttsOnly these three, in total, cover 31.6% of all waste on our beaches.

We #TrameMediterranee we wanted to see with our own eyes these worrying data and together with Plastic Free we engaged in the plastic collection on the beach of Marina Di Mezzatorre.
Tomorrow we will launch a challenge on TikTok that helps us to understand the unique beauty of our seas, through a collective action. Because the sea belongs to all and then everyone we must take care of it.
